Main goal

Specific goals

Participatory development and rehabilitation of rural roads.
Test a strategy aimed at enabling farmers to build up a small amount of capital to face the next growing season.
To make several hundred kilometers of rehabilitated roads passable throughout the year, with a structure that ensures all the conditions for sustainability (maintenance, management).

Implementation

Use of labor-intensive strategy, involve local authorities as direct stakeholders in all phases of the project.

Eligibility criteria:

Projects must:

Meet the objectives of self-sufficiency and food security.
Respond to the development and agricultural production needs expressed only by local beneficiary communities and have an economic and social impact on the lives of the population.
Be implemented with the active participation of the beneficiary communities.
Promote the optimal use of local human resources and be a strong generator of employment (labor-intensive system).
Encourage the development of local resources.
A road maintenance system involving local authorities, users, and the public.

Project beneficiaries must:

Be a registered community or rural village group.
Have sufficient organizational capacity to contribute to the implementation of the planned activities.
Ensure effective participation in the project. This participation may be in kind, in the form of a service, or otherwise, depending on their availability.
Have a commitment from the local administrative authorities (municipality or association of municipalities, municipal road commission) to participate responsibly and effectively in the management and maintenance of the projects.
